Well look who's back with a lil EP! It's The Daysleepers, more commonly and correctly known as Day Sleeper. The first time we heard from these guys, we were just putting out their full length Drop Your Sword as CPR006. That album showed promise but the real coming out party happened with Day Sleeper's contribution to CPR's first compilation Crust Never Sleeps. Have I lost you yet? No? Good, because with their newest release Wonderland Kid, Day Sleeper delivers.

The "single" here is Windows Left Open and that's a good thing since it's probably my favorite. You can download it above, the rest of the songs you can only stream (for now). Apparently, the album was mostly recorded at WERS in Boston. I had no idea they had a nice studio there, but damn these songs sound great. I'm also partial to the first track "Wait Stay".

We're up to CPR020 and we couldn't be more proud to have this gem as our twentieth release. We'll get back to you with more news about possibly Day Sleeper shows in New York and elsewhere as soon as we know.

Download Wonderland Kid on iTunes
Email Day Sleeper to get the correct mp3s if you buy it. Apparently the iTunes mp3s are corrupt. Email them!

Sheeeiiiiit son....we ignored this blog for TOO long considering how much there is to say! Things have been busy and rockin' here @ Cooling Pie HQ.

THE PAST:

First of all, we had a terrific release party for Crust Never Sleeps last Friday. As you problably know by now, the night featured CPR stalwarts Pocketknife & Ava Luna, as well as Asa Ransom, who I'm pretty sure are going to blow the fuck up any minute now. Here's a pic from the party:

Pretty cool huh? We gave out a lot of PIE and about one majillion copies of Crust Never Sleeps. Shit was tight. Which reminds me, if you haven't checked it out yet:

THE PRESENT:

Spencer and I are sitting here and listening to the new Wilco album. It's called "Wilco (The Album", which sort of worried me at first because it sounded a little too cheeky. My fears have been assuaged as of the fourth track "Bull Black Nova". This (Wilco the) album is amazing (so far). The recording seems to harken back a little bit to "A Ghost Is Born" and the songs have the simple feel of "Sky Blue Sky" but unlike the latter, it's good. Oh shit, now Feist is singing. Crap, did I jinx this thing? I don't really want to hear her singing backup on this song, it's pretty awkward. When famous people sing backing vocals, they shoul be BURIED in the mix. She's practically louder then him. I want this song to end. This is some dad rock shit right here. I need to write about something else in order to allow the album to get good again.

THE FUTURE:

- We're gonna be doing some sort of Casiorossi release on June 31st. Get ready for it
- Cas Kaplan from Day Sleeper is currently working on a solo release that we're gonna put out.
- kc quilty is working on something secret.

Stay tuned, we're gonna keep posting awesome stuff up here. Cuz we rock.

CP006 ::: DAY SLEEPER - DROP YOUR SWORD

Recorded and mixed by Will Radin in Cas' Basement Dungeon
Luke Pyenson - Drums
Justin Danforth - Guitar
Cas Kaplan - Guitar/Vocals
Dan Ferm - Bass

As promised (albeit a few days late), we present to you Day Sleeper's debut album Drop Your Sword. I like this album 'cause there's a buncha feedback on it and there's echoey tambourines and lotsa guitars and yet vocalist Cas sits pretty squarely in the center of the mix. It's like My Bloody Valentine if they turned up the vocals a little bit. I know people love the MBV buried vocal thing but myself, I prefer to be able to hear the damn singer. So yeah, you can hear him, just stream it!

Cooling Pie Records: An Adoption Agency or a Record Label?

The Kaplan family dynasty contiues with Cas Kaplan, brother of Wes Kaplan (of Craters fame). Cas' band is called Day Sleeper and we're glad to welcome them into the Cooling Pie family. And yes, now that they are part of the family, it means that Spencer and I are Day Sleeper's new parents. Make sure you guys do your chores or I'll take away your drum machine! Huzzah!

On a more serious note, Drop Your Sword will go up on this blawg on January 10th. Coincidenally, Day Sleeper's gonna be playing a show with some friends at the Middle East upstairs the same day to celebrate the release. The show starts at the rock and roll hour of ONE PEE EM (1 PM) so come celebrate lunchtime with Day Sleeper!

In the meantime, go check out Day Sleeper's myspace page and get excited about the FUTURE.
